Is this a woman's book or will it appeal to men as well?

To me. "The World Without You" is definitely a book that would attract women more then men. I reviewed Jamie Saul's "The First Warm Evening of the Year: A Novel" for Bookbrowse and found it to be the same. Then I checked the reviews on Amazon and the majority were by women. Then I checked this book and again found most reviews were written by women. Note: I did not read the reviews, just concentrated on who wrote them. What do you think?

Women make up the majority of the novel reading audience in general. I would say a book like this, that deals with relationships, is more a novel for females than males. That's not to say a man wouldn't or couldn't enjoy it but just speaking in generalities.

Speaking as a man I did enjoy this book, but I would say it is definitely going to appeal more to women. I think the subject matter is not something that would attract most men to read a book. I read all types of books and do enjoy a good book about families.

I like Jeffs' answer. I think men will enjoy the book, but they'll likely only get to read it if one of the women in their life recommends it. It may help that a couple of the "praise blurbs" on the back are written by men, but in general it seems to me that books about relationships appeal more to women, maybe because the publicity for them is aimed at women.

Am I the only one who wishes that we could dispense with the distinction between books that appeal to men or women. Realize that it is a reality - just wish it wasn't.

Dorothy - you're not alone - I too wish that!

I think more of a woman's book, although some men might like it. I gave it to my husband and he did not care for it.

I think it will appeal to women more. The men in my life are all readers, but I can't imagine any of them reading this wonderful novel. Some men are are more introspective and discuss feelings, but I think more are like the character of David in the novel - not so verbal about things, but feeling them deeply nonetheless.

At the risk of stereotyping men, I don't think men like to read about emotional subjects or get involved in tremendous character development. Sorry!

Ithink it would appeal to women more, but I find it interesting that the author is male. He did a great job writing from the female perspective.
