Do you think a person's enjoyment of social meda has anything to do with their temperament?

Do you enjoy social media such as Facebook and Twitter? Do you think this has anything to do with your temperament?

I am on Facebook quite a bit and I think introverts do find FB socialization easier than 'real life' socialization.

I find that Facebook is a lovely way to stay aware of what is happening in the lives of my huge group of relatives. I do not post a lot but comment occasionally. With my four teenage grandchildren who are all in the same family I see a direct connection between the introverts and extroverts with regard to the world of texting. Oldest, a girl and 3rd in line boy are never without the phone, usually in their hand. The extroverts in all ways. The more introverted # 2 girl and # 4 boy frequently don't even know for sure where their phone is and don't care.

I do not spend a lot of time on social media, but I think that is because I work with computers all day long and at night I tend to not want to be around them. However, I would much rather get an email than a phone call. I would almost rather not have a phone which I know sounds strange. But I am much more comfortable having 'conversations' via email. This may be in part due to my being an introvert.

I do think that people who are loners or more introverted can connect with people better through the computer than personal interaction...less risk involved. My older son (the extrovert) uses Facebook to check where the next activity or party is going to be. He doesn't spend alot of time with the computer, more with people.

I'm an introvert and a born lurker, not in a weird way, but in an observational way. i use Facebook to safely keep up with my social network, without having to "out myself out there" until I am comfortable or until I have something to say. What is strange about my participation in social media is that when I post my own items, I actually dread somments. Likes are OK, I like to be acknowledged, but I get edgy when having to respond to comments, even from people I know well. I like to be acknowledge but don't particularly enjoy direct attention. I never really analyzed by relationship with social media in relation to my personality before. It is quite interesting, colors the way I use Facebook now.

For me personally, I have a hard time sharing my thoughts and feelings with the social media. I have friends that I relate to with e-mails, but that is a one-on-one interaction. I respect those, that get comfort from posting their feelings and activities to a group of people.

Maybe because I'm older (early 60s), I don't use social media much, although I have FB and Twitter accounts, primarily to keep up with my children. I don't like to share everyday personal experiences on such accounts. I feel like my private life should remain private. I do like one-on-one email or texting conversations, which I prefer to phone conversations which are often inconvenient.

I am more an introvert than a extrovert, and I do enjoy Facebook to keep up with my far-flung family and friends, and to pose questions on which I want opinions from many people without having to make a lot of phone calls. I also find it easier to have some kinds of discussions via e-mail than by phone, since I can do so at my convenience.
