RE: Which character in the novel do you identify with most?
I think it would be Mary, for her maternal and protective instincts- especially with Jubie. She could see that she was a sensitive child, and she nurtured her, building up her self-esteem. I felt touched by Mary. There was so much prejudice and disrespect that she dealt with, yet she carried on with dignity. She seemed so accepting of how things were. But then, what choice did she have?

I agree with Jeann. I identified the most with Mary, she was really the rock of the family and really the only person who treated Jubie as a beloved child. She was really the best character in the book, she stood for everything that a person should be: dignified, moral, caring and have empathy for others. Quick Reply Please login to post a response.
