I liked the characters of Larry, Mary Lou and Nemo the best. I think those were the three characters that most of the story was about and that they were the characters you got to know best. We got to know these 3 characters from the time they were young and seeing things through the eyes of youth, all the way until they were much older and viewing things from the accumulated wisdom of age.

Mary Lou. She seemed to have her head on the straightest. I also liked the Cuban artist, can't remember his name, but I liked his story.

Of the characters we only saw in one chapter, I really liked Hans Brauer, the young German man who was betrayed by his friend and ended up committing suicide so he would not reveal what he knew.

Mary Lou was my favorite character. She never stopped doing what she thought was the right thing and seemed to grow up and mature into a successful and content person. Her heart was always in the right place even when she didn't always get what she thought she wanted.

Sharleen Stirling. I think a movie could be made just about her.

Like so many others have said, Mary Lou was my favorite character. She adapted well to changing situations, matured as a character, and did not seem as stuck in the past as some of the other characters. Her transition to successful TV producer showed that she could indeed change with the times.
