Set in England after WWI

The story took place in England after World War I, sometime in the late 1920s. The star was a private detective who was investigating a crime related to the war. She had come from a working class family but had been sponsored by somebody to get an education and went to Cambridge before the war.

RE: Set in England after WWI

Hi Pat, The protagonist you describe sounds a lot like Maisie Dobbs but there's a number of books in Jacqueline Winspear's series now and I'm not sure which is the one you're looking for. You'll find info on most of the books at http://bookbrowse.com/books_by_author/index.cfm/author_number/1028

This sounds like Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspeare. There are other books featuring the same character. They are well written and capture the atmosphere of the time. England suffered greatly during the war and from the Spanish flu which followed. Maisie is a memorable character. This is a series I've really enjoyed.
