I know I have! I've also been hired because my skills were so suited, but told I will need to prove myself by "coming out of my shell." I hate that expression, as Susan Cain also stated.

The book has been an eye-opener for me because I believe my son got caught in the corporate culture mode described in the book. He's very bright and worked hard all his life; he graduated from sterling college and law schools, he made the law review and clerked for a judge. He was sought for internship at a topnotch law firm, but was not asked to join them. He was hired for another but could see he was going nowhere so he left them. He believed that if he spent his time working and not hanging out he would better serve the firms. I attributed it to his inability to "schmooze". Little did I know how correct I was.

From the "Misconceptions About Introverts" question, I have learned that the responders felt that others thought them stuck-up. I believe that's what happened to my son as well. Thank you!

Yes, definitely. Many corporations use the "behavioral interview" system which disadvantages introverts. I have found it like a form of torture. There also seems to be an overemphasis on teams in corporate culture.

Failed an interview, definitely.
