What's your favorite funny moment?

I found this novel to be loaded with humor, some of it subtle and some of it almost slapstick. Here are two of my favorite funny moments:

--The fact that Miranda gained her reputation as a mercurial and intimidating woman because of her near-sightedness, causing her to inadvertently ignore her aquaintences.

--"Why is he always talking to me?" Mr. Shpuntov was saying in a loud angry voice. "Why does he bother me?" "He's your daughter," Cousin Lou yelled into his ear.

What are yours?

I thought the embroglio with Frederick and the housesitter/wannabe wife Amber to be hilarious, and when she ended up running off with his son, it was just too funny.

I found myself laughing aloud as Felicity screams to Josie, "That little golddigger...she'll never set her scheming little foot in this apartment again.". The irony of it all makes me grin in a sheepish way.

I think the character Mr. Shpuntov was slapstaick funny whenever he spoke up in the story. The other caracter was Frederick, his relationship with his children, Amber and even Annie.

It's a toss-up between the visit to the marriage counselor who turned out to be a specialist in helping women leaving marriages for other women, and the joke about the couple in their 90's who, when asked why they divorced so late in life, said they were waiting for the kids to die.

I loved the description of rain-soaked Felicity's mink, "matted and limp, a sad family of vermin drowned and slung across her body". What a funny mental picture, then Joseph, "dropped it in the bathtub, half expecting damp revengeful minks to rise up from its folds."

I like when Mr. Shpuntov was talking to Mr. Eight-o-seven. Annie wondered who Mr. Eight-o-seven was until she looked at the hands of her watch and realized he was telling stories to the clock.

I also enjoyed the Mr. Shpuntov segments. I laughed out loud!

And the part about the wet coat was priceless!

RE: What's your favorite funny moment?

I thought it was horribly funny the a reviewer said this was like a Jane Austen novel. True, most of it was boring. Also like an Austen novel I wanted to scream...get over it, slap him, do anything but whine...even STAND UP FOR YOUR SELF. Do people copy other styles of writing just to sell books? If I want to read what Jane Austen had written I would do so.

The fur coat incident wasn't funny -- especially for the mink.
