No cure in my lifetime. I'm 73. My dad had dementia for four years before he died at 92. Altho progressive tracks are being made in the research of, it may be like the cure of cancer. So many classifications of the disease that advancement in one type leaves more varieties to be investigated. Therefore, I think there may never be a blanket cure.

Suzanne, I feel what you're saying is true. I don't know if there will ever be any one cure for a disease as diverse as this one. I have hope some progress will be made but I don't expect to live long enough to see Alzheimer's cured. Slowed perhaps, or controlled, but not eradicated.

Sadly, no. As I understand, there is not a definitive way to diagnosis Alzheimer's (until after death), and the causes are uncertain as well. However, there is much advice on how to try to prevent dementia, which gives us all some hope.

I think not. I am 60 years old. I work at a Medical School in which Alzheimer's is under intense research. There are so many considerations in this research that I believe after speaking with PhD's and research assistants that it will take quite some time to sort things out. There seems to be a huge amount of information on the negative impact of our environment and products which we've produced such as under arm deodorant which is filled with metals and rubbed directly in to our lymph system - use of plastic containers in microwave ovens etc. - which are all leads but which take enormous amounts of time to track down.

No, not in my lifetime - I'm 71 and I can only hope and pray that my children will see a cure or better yet, a prevention for Alzheimer's in their lifetime.

There may be progress in the development of better slowing the disease, but I think a cure will take much longer. An issue with the new medications might be the side affects. Sometimes the list of those possibilities are so extensive, one must think seriously about using them.

Perhaps I have more hope about this issue since I personally know the researchers at U Penn who are working on this disease. Maybe not in my lifetime but the progress in identifying gene markers and focusing cure has been remarkable. We have come far in the management of the disease

Not in my lifetime. I am 71 years old and short term memory loss is evident. I have asked several in the health care profession with negative answers each time. My mother had altzheimer's, my grandmother had altzheimer's so the writing is on the wall. I thoroughly sympathize with (what was her name again?) as there is absolutely no control - complete helplessness - sometimes a total blank. So, it looks as if "management of the disease" mentioned by rebajane is in store for me - but I sincerely doubt a cure.

I think in my lifetime (probably another 20 yrs) much more will be known, but I doubt if a cure will be found.
