Playing Dumb to be Sexy

On page 21 Clarisse not only puts up with Ramsey but "[responds] to male attention with adolescent giddiness... ." This book is set in1950. Would young women / teenage girls of today still respond in this matter? Do females of today "play dumb" in order to be perceived as sexy by males?

RE: Playing Dumb to be Sexy

One would like to think our young girls/women are more enlightened these days, but I have to admit that I have watched my daughter, my friends daughters in the full blooming of 16-year-old hormones do exactly that. I think it is simply a human trait that all the enlightenment in the world is not really going to ever change totally.

Unfortunately I see this fairly often, even with older women who should know better. There are some women who seem to think they are not of any value unless they are with a man, and they will act dumb to attract him and to keep him.

It was the starting point for clarisse's growth. She was embarrassed by it even as she engaged in it. I was glad to see her change.
