Why do you think humans are so eager to see their future, and do you think tarot cards, or any other divination method, can predict the future?

Why do you think humans are so eager to see their future, and do you think tarot cards, or any other divination method, can predict the future?

The earliest tarot cards date from 15th century Europe, and are still used in much of Europe to play card games and are not used for divination. But in English speaking countries, since around the 17th century, such card games are rarely played and instead the cards are used for divination.

Divination tools come in many different guises from tarot cards to teacups, Ouija boards to astrology, dowsing rods to crystal balls. Why do you think humans are so eager to see their future, and do you think tarot cards, or any other divination method, can predict the future?

I don't think people want to see the actual future so much as they want to find out that good things are going to happen to them. I don't think most people are thinking - give me to me straight; I can take it - good or bad. I think it's more - tell me all of the wonderful things that are about to happen. And it would be nice if tarot cards could both predict the future and ensure that the future is good (since that is the only prediction we want to hear) but I do not believe in them, or astrology, or any kind of divination.

I don't believe that there is anything that can see into the future. I am a confirmed skeptic, but I think people are resistant to change, finding out what is going to happen ahead of time appeals because it makes it less stressful if you know exactly what will happen.

I don't think anyone can predict the future. Some people may have premonitions once in a while but not often.

I agree with Susan S. that people don't really want to know the future, they just want people to tell them good things. I am an attorney and I have had multiple clients tell me that they feel like we will be successful in our case because they have consulted a psychic. It seems clear, however, that no psychic in their right mind would tell someone that their court case would come out badly.
Although they might not be accurate, I think that consulting a tarot deck or a psychic is a good way for people to do some self therapy and sort out their options for the future.

Personally, I think the crystal ball, tarot cards or whatever so called mediums use are all just a game. Maybe good for entertainment but nothing else. Also, I don't have any desire to see the future. I think that living your life and dealing with whatever makes it possible to enjoy your world as each moment passes with neither stress about the future nor sadness about what may be going to happen to you ruining the present.

I think we want to know the future if it holds good things, and in order to let us better prepare for the bad that comes our way. I guess we think that if we know something is not going to turn out well, we can avoid it.There is absolutely no way anyone can ever tell the future and if they promise to they are a charlatan and a fraud.

I think its just a human trait. Most people use tarot as a tool, kind of a self help or reflection. I don't think anyone can really see the future, I certainly wouldn't want to.

We want to see the future because the unknown can be frightening. We think if we know what is to happen we can circumvent or prevent bad stuff from taking place. We can't...but we'd like to. No divination tool can predict the future, in my opinion. Some people have highly developed perceptions and may be able to detect certain future possibilities but I do not believe anyone, or any tool, can tell us what will actually take place. We, as humans, wish to be in control and seek knowledge of the future in order to control our destiny.
