What do you think motivated Grace to create a wall of photographs of Charlie?

Grace frames photographs of Charlie, in chronological order from infancy to pre-war with her and Amy, which she hangs on her sunporch wall after he dies. What do you think motivated her to do this? Also, what do you think about why and when she took the photographs down -- repainting the sunporch, hanging a picture of a bowl of flowers on the wall and leaving only a photograph on the end table?

It's a bit macabre, on the one hand. Some may think it's such a devoted thing to do but really I think it has more to do with the constant reminder she's alive and he isn't, that she can never forget the sacrifice he made for her. She may have been afraid she wouldn't honor his memory if his photos weren't always watching. Not a really emotionally healthy thing to do, enshrining a deceased spouse.

In creating the wall of pictures, maybe Grace wanted to prove to herself that she really loved Charlie. Seeing his wall of pictures would help reinforce that in her mind. And, she wanted the wall of pictures to show her daughter that her dad had really lived.

I have heard of people mourning the loss of a loved one saying "I cannot picture his/her face anymore." That seems to be affiliated with totally forgetting a loved one altogether. Quite possibly this could have been what was going on only much more compulsive.

I have widowed friends who cannot part with things that belonged to their partner and they need something solid. This may have ben Grace's purpose.
