I found the book to be about Terry instead of her mother. From the descriptions, I was expecting more discovery about the mother. I thought I would be reading something more like Please Look After Mom (excellent) and The 19th Wife. My expectations lead me to be disappointed in the book.

I too wanted to know more about Terry's mothers life. Since the journals originated with her I think knowing more about the mother might help[ the reader interpret the blank pages of the journals.

I'm not sure Terry knew much more about her mother. Her mother seemed to be a very private person.
