Katie

Hi, my name is Katie and I am 14. I am doing an author study on Gail Carson Levine and have already read a few of her books. By far, Ella Enchanted was my favorite. This book is about a young girl, Ella, who lives in a world where faries, elves, and ogres exist. When she is born, a foolish fairy bestows the "gift" of obedience to her. As she gets older, and begins to fall in love, Ella realizes that somehow she must break this curse. She goes on an adventure that will blow you away, and in the end realizes how strong true love is. I loved this book because Levine makes you feel like you are a character in the story, and her descriptions of Ella's "fairy world" help you to see it before your very eyes. There is humor, romance, and sadness in this book. Sometimes, some of the characters are so mean I want to be a part of the story just so I can yell at them! The only part about Ella Enchanted that I didn't like was that it resembled Cinderella a little too much, but perhaps Levine wanted it that way. I definitely suggest that you read Ella Enchanted, because it is the best book that I have ever experienced. If you have any information on Gail Carson Levine's email adress, I would appreciate it if you emailed me at goodnbubbly@yahoo.com. Thanks!

This book was great, but if you want to read a better book you should read The Two Princesses of Bamarre. Every book I read by Gail Carson Levine keeps getting better and better! I'm dissapointed though that Mia in Princess Diaries is playing Ella. I imagined Ella much more younger than she is and looks (somewhere around 12-15).

Ella Enchanted
I simply love this book but the movie and the reviews are way off by many things. The book is great but it definitely can be confusing.

This book most certainly did not deserve a full-credit rating. It wasn't entirely original, and wasn't very imaginative. I would consider this book to be a good 'threshhold to fantasy' you might say. Sort of like how marijuana is the 'threshhold of heavy drugs"...

The book was alright. I agree that it was a fresh twist on the Cinderella story, but you have to consider how many billions of times that Cinderella has been reworked and rewritten. It also appears that Ella grew up too quickly near the end of the book. What's the problem with that? Well, it was unrealistic. I know the book would fall under fantasy and therefor a lot of it would be unrealistic, but a good author makes it believable. Ella's mental and emotional maturity near the end of the book wasn't 'believable'. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book just fine, but I've read more heartfelt, believable, and oringinal fairytale reworkings.

It was great I had to read it for a book asignment. I love to read books. But this one didn't strike my as extremly great. If I didn't have to read it I wouldn't. I read The Wish it was alot better.
