After a surprise visit with her daughters, Lucy observes: It is a gift in this life that we do not know what awaits us. Do you agree with this sentiment? Why or why not?

Interesting because between her dreams and visions and omens, Lucy seems to have a better handle on the future than most of us! Maybe she says that as a way of handling her gifts of premonitions. As with her invention of a good mother, she works hard to protect her emotional stability. And knowing and imagining futures is really the job of the creative artist too.

I do agree. If we knew the future, what would be the point of dreaming, planning, preparing, anticipating? Where would be the joy in little things? Would it make it easier to deal with tragedies and heartbreak? Doubtful, because we would live our lives waiting for terrible things to happen and not fully enjoy the present. Why would we have free will if everything is predetermined? Life is supposed to be a journey upon which we embark with the freedom to choose our other path. Some of us are better at navigating the way than others.
