Clytemnestra and Helen's relationship is tested many times, yet there is always love between them. How might you describe the evolution of their relationship? How does the theme of forgiveness play a role between the two?

Coming of Age

Helen grew up. She became more independent from Clytenestra so C had to learn she could not always take care of her younger sister. And the other younger sisters came into their own.

RE: There is always love between ...

At first Helen is admiring of her big sister - she is stronger and smarter than Helen. Then she is jealous of what Clytemnestra has - husband and son, and Helen is not nearly as happy. When Clytemnestra is married to Agamemnon then the sisters appear to have equal footing. While, no doubt, Clytemnestra understands why Helen would want to run away, she is perturbed as to the destruction Helen's actions caused. I don't think they ever lost love for each other - they didn't always like or understand each other though.

Though sisters, Helen and Clytemnestra are entirely different in personality..Clytemnestra has power while Helen has beauty.
Each uses what they have as best as they can.

At first, they were inseparable; each thought they knew and needed to protect the other. They were each jealous of the other for different reasons--typical of siblings. And, like siblings, they had their disagreements, and estrangements, and finally found their own paths. They always loved each other, even when they disagreed.

They both matured and were able to let go of their competitive (though caring) relationship to appreciate what they shared in childhood memory, or later suffered in common (in a patriarchal society), more than their differences in personality or physical attributes.
