RE: Have you read the authors' ...

I have not read any of Meltzer's other books. I will likely look them up for future reads after this one. I recently read the novel The House of Lincoln and very much enjoyed that. The author Nancy Horan obviously did a lot of research and I saw various similarities to what was written in both books.

RE: Have you read the authors' ...

I have not read any of the others but this one had me researching so many things and I realized I wanted to know more about the Civil War. I grew up overseas and so I missed a lot of American History taught in school here in the states. I found a few books on the Civil War that I want to read: Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson, The Civil War by Bruce Catton, and The Civil War: A Visual History.
Would love some recommendations!

My favorite Meltzer book was the one about Franklin Roosevelt. I love his use of short chapters. His books read like thrillers.

I will be looking for other historical books by this author, I have read and enjoyed several of his thrillers. I have read several other books about Lincoln, my favorite was Team of Rivals.

I've read more of his thrillers, but I've also read 'The First Conspiracy." I liked this book better -- it seemed more detailed and complete in its analysis and presentation of the conspiracy, perhaps because more information is available. Both books seemed well-researched. I've read a number of other Lincoln books, most recently "The House of Lincoln" by Nancy Horan. I also enjoyed "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Next up: Jon Meacham's "And There Was LIght."

I have read both "The First Conspiracy" and "The Lincoln Conspiracy" and found them to be very good. I look forward to reading their book, "The Nazi Conspiracy", in the near future. I've read a number of other conspiracy books but not relative to the civil war.

I’ve read both the First Conspiracy and Nazi Conspiracy - enjoyed both. Of the 3, I like the First Conspiracy best, but believe it is the topic rather than the book that I enjoyed. The Civil War was such a self destructive war that I’ve always found it a more difficult subject to study.

I have and love Brad Meltzer's writing style and fascinating way of telling of history. Most students find history boring. That is because Meltzer and Mensch were not throat teachers.

This is my first Meltzer book, I will definitely read the other conspiracy books. Also read the House of Lincoln which was another of the discussion books for Book Browse. Some of the same time period, but one was narrative non-fiction while the other was historical fiction.

RE: Have you read the authors' ...

This is the 3rd conspiracy book by Meltzer and Mensch that I’ve read this year. I enjoyed “The Nazi Conspiracy” and “The Lincoln Conspiracy” a lot because each book provided a good overview of history leading up to the actual assassination plots. Both of these books read like a thriller and were hard to put down. While I enjoyed “The First Conspiracy” and found easier to put down, the book was still a great read and one that enlightened me about Washington’s life.

RE: Have you read the authors' ...

As stated in the "Overall, what did you think of this book?" comment, I very much enjoyed this book. After reading The Nazi Conspiracy earlier this year, I found The Lincoln Conspiracy to be comparable. The authors do a great job of keeping the reader's interest. Their books avoid the dry historical narrative and present facts in an easily understood and remembered way. Other books about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War that I have enjoyed include the Time-Life Series on the Civil War which is a great overall, but in depth look at all aspects of the War; The Civil War by Geoffrey C. Ward, Ken Burns, and Ric Burns (and the PBS series) which provides a moving intimate look at the war and its continued effect on our country; and Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin, which leads the reader through the horrible situation Lincoln faced and his tremendous leadership.

Gerrieb: Thank you for all of the great recommendations!

I have read The Nazi Conspiracy. I liked both books. What I really like is that the reader knows the event mentioned in the title has not happened; however, the authors keep the reader turning the pages by creating suspense of how it didn't happen. Both are fast reads, but heavily detailed and researched. My first book in ninth grade was Gone With the Wind, and I have been hooked on Civil War books ever since.

I haven‘t read the other books in this series, but would like to after enjoying this one so much. I read the Sandberg biography of Lincoln in college and really enjoyed it.

I have read the other two books. I think this is the best of the three, although I really enjoyed The Nazi Conspiracy book too. The First Conspiracy just didn't grab my attention.

RE: Have you read the authors' ...

I just finished the "First Conspiracy--The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington. I found both books to be outstanding. What I found really refreshing about both books was the style and the structure of the narrative. The author chose to keep the reader glued to the pages--no running back and forth to the dictionary. the chapters were quick and on point. The research was complete-he [the author] would step out of the narrative and inform the reader that a scene or an event was investigated to to the full extent and where conjecture or an educated guess was employed where the search initiatives were exhausted.

RE: Have you read the authors' ...

I have read their Nazi Conspiracy and, like this one, find their style of short chapters, and well researched events very interesting and enjoyable. There are many books I've read about the Civil War, Mary Todd Lincoln, Lincoln himself and even the books about Jefferson Davis and his wife. Varina. I've been to many sites involved with Lincoln including his home in Springfield, his law office and his office in the Capitol bldg there, his first burial site and the Memorial in Washington. But. I've also seen the purported log cabin in Kentucky where he lived as well as much of the area where he spent his youth and young manhood. Since Robert Todd Lincoln's home was in Vermont I have also been to Hildene.
