How do you think the feud between the Montagues and Capulets colors Rosaline and Romeo's early interactions? How does she feel about keeping their identities secret while out together and the truth of their relationship to herself?

I think the feud enhances the secrecy of the affair between the two of them--making Rosaline sure that her family would not accept it. When you are young, when you are rebelling, it feels unique and right.

I agree with Sweeney - the fact that the relationship is forbidden adds to its allure.

I absolutely agree that the fruit of the forbidden tree is mysterious and powerfully attractive.

Also it makes it easier for Romeo to seduce her undiscovered.

They had to be cautious which made their love more exciting. It made them want to seek each other out all of the time.

Each was "forbidden fruit" for the other, and that made the relationship more attractive.

The whole "don't tell anybody" thing makes it even more alluring yet even creepier. Rosaline was enthralled and Romeo was covering up his tracks. The fact that their families were feuding absolutely made it even more beguiling for Rosaline and easier for Romeo.

The family feud makes Rosaline want to keep their secret but it also gives advantage to Romeo.

I agree with the comments of others. Having to keep things secret made it easier for Romeo to take advantage of Rosaline, and also of Juliet.

I think Romeo benefitted from the feud in that he knew Rosaline would be very reluctant to tell anyone what was going on between the two of them. It was the perfect situation for an older man to manipulate a younger, less experienced person. Did she give him her pendant or did he steal it? Who was she going to tell if it was the latter?

I think there is also a thrill to secrecy in a romantic/sexual relationship. Emotions are heightened. the risk of being caught and the anticipation of finding those stolen moments together can be confused as love. Rosaline has no one to discuss what is happening in her relationship with Romeo, and his behavior is unchecked. Rosaline has his version, explanations, and experience to rely upon.
