The book is full of references to other books. Have you read any of them or found any new recommendations?

RE: Have you read any of the books ...

Since I was an English major in college, I had to read Byron in various classes. I believe I read excerpts of Conversations of Lord Byron with the Countess of Blessington.
Other book references I was familiar with included Wuthering Heights, Persuasion, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Wizard of Oz,and the poetry of Emily Dickenson.

I love the classics. I have read Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte, Austen, Thackeray, Wolfe, Joyce, Emily Dickinson and many more authors that were not mentioned in the book. My favorite is Thomas Hardy. She mentioned the books Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz both favorites from my childhood that I reread as an adult. At college and as a young adult I always read classics. One of my goals this year is to read at least one classic a month!

I have read most if not all of the books mentioned. I was very absorbed by the Classics as a young teenager. My mother introduced me to Shakespeare when I was about eight and I loved him! I found it so easy to understand the language at a young age. I did the same with my daughter and she too, became a huge fan. She also had no trouble parsing the meanings when she was younger. I think the young mind is often more adaptable and grasps things that aren’t the standard more easily. It was certainly a plus in high school, as we had already read the plays when we were much younger.

I was not a classics reader and am not sure I am now, but the references made me curious and I may give one or two a look.

Yes, I had read Flowers in the Attic way back during my high school years. I do own a copy of Never Let Me Go but have not actually read it yet. I do make a point of reading at least one classic a year, just haven't gotten to any of the Brontes. I will be picking up Normal People from the library, hopefully in 2024, along with finally choosing Wuthering Heights.
