Don Cheadle was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Betty, a bank manager, and
Donald Cheadle, a child psychologist. He has a sister, Cindy, and a brother,
Colin. He attended East High School in Denver, Colorado and graduated from
the California Institute of the Arts.
He got his film break playing the role of Rocket in Colors (1998).
Since then he has appeared in a number of movies including Rosewood,
The Family Man, Boogie Nights, Out of Sight, Traffic,
and Ocean's Eleven.
In 2005 he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his
portrayal of Paul Rusesabagina in Hotel Rwanda.
In 2007 he published Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur
and Beyond with John Prendergast, a humanitarian with much experience in
Africa with the International Crisis Group.
Cheadle lives in Los Angeles with actress Bridgid Coulter and their two daughters, Ayana and Imani.
