Robert Rick McCammon was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on 17 July 1952. He received a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Alabama in 1974; following graduation, McCammon wrote advertising copy for Birmingham businesses and newspapers. Failing to get his short stories into print, he wrote his first full-length novel, Baal and shortly thereafter began writing full-time.
McCammon has now written over 19 novels and is a New York Times bestseller. He is best known for Swan Song and Boy's Life, both still in print after two decades. McCammon is a frequent nominee and winner of the Bram Stoker Award and has won several World Fantasy Awards.
