Michael Ratner was born 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio He is a 1966 graduate of Brandeis University. He received his law degree from Columbia Law School.
Ratner is President Emeritus of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), a non-profit human rights litigation organization based in New York City and president of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) based in Berlin.
The Center for Constitutional Rights, along with other human rights groups, filed a war crimes lawsuit against Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, and other U.S. officials in Germany under the country's universal jurisdiction law.
Ratner lives in New York City.
