I felt like Kovac was a red herring.
The interactions between the ladies while lost & how they behaved while Alice was missing helped me determine what was actually going on.

Even though the relationships between the women (including the two sisters) were clearly combative, I wouldn't say that anything was a red herring. It is often necessary to work with other people that one can not stand but most humans are able to still remain civil.

I agree, the Kovac thread was a red herring and not very compelling. It felt like padding of the plot to me, rather than a viable possibility

I have to agree with katherinep. There wasn't enough emphasis on Kovac to make him the killer. Falk also mentioned to Carmen that where Kovac's son was concerned, it was all pretty speculative.

One clue that shed some light on who might have killed Alice, was when Lauren helped to get the gas canister out of the river. Afterwards the women were discussing if they should move on or stay put and try to call for help using Alice's cell phone. Here it is revealed that Lauren and Alice had past experiences, through their school, in bush survival. Alice shows her map skills and implied that it worked back then by saying, "Well, I didn't end up dead in the bush."

I think the Kovak thread was an attempt to lead one astray. For awhile I thought the young man at the gas station might be the Kovak son. The money laundering information that Alice was gathering made it seem possible that the Bailey's were the culprits, as did the fact that Alice's daughter had dated the Bailey son. The tension between the women set up any number of possibilities. I thought the women were the culprits but it was interesting how it all played out.

Agree that the Kovac part of the plot was a red herring. However, it seemed so implausible that that one didn't lead me astray. I was more tempted to concentrate on the Baileys and their reasons for wanting to see Alice disappear.

The only red herring I picked up on was also the Kovac part of the plot. It came early on and was not fleshed out toward the end. So that left the four co-workers, but I did not guess the ending until the end.

I have to say that I didn’t pick up on any “red herrings,” although it did feel like the crime was committed by one of the women, given their animosity towards one another. Having said that, I didn’t think it was one of the sisters.

I wasn't 100% but I didnt think the Kovak plot would turn into anything, I was fairly positive that if she died someone from the company did it. I was thinking more of one of the owners though and not the sisters
