Lucy observes: It is a gift in this life that we do not know what awaits us. Do you agree?

After a surprise visit with her daughters, Lucy observes: It is a gift in this life that we do not know what awaits us. Do you agree with this sentiment? Why or why not?

I love this message. I can’t decide if Lucy was an optimist or a pessimist, but she had a few insights that were beautiful.

I agree I do not want to know what awaits me in the future, good or bad.

Interesting because between her dreams and visions and omens, Lucy seems to have a better handle on the future than most of us! Maybe she says that as a way of handling her gifts of premonitions. As with her invention of a good mother, she works hard to protect her emotional stability. And knowing and imagining futures is really the job of the creative artist too.

I think Lucy was a realist. I’ve always wondered what will happen in the future but life is a gift, and the gift is in not knowing what will happen today or in the future. The really hard part is not worrying about what is ahead.

I absolutely agree and for Lucy, thank God she did not know of the future because she has so much anxiety. Of course, if we did know about the future, we may make different decisions/choices.

Yes. I agree. I would not want to know what is ahead instead of letting life unfold. I would probably focus on what I know is ahead instead of living, planning, and having dreams. It would take away so much of the mystery of life and hope in things to come.

I do agree. No matter our faith or beliefs, no one can unequivocally state they know what happens after death. Life is a gift. Simply stated but with so much meaning.

This is probably true that we shouldn't know the future. It's tempting when things feel uncertain to want to know what will happen, but that would rob us of the journey, and sometimes the journey is the point.

Yes I believe it is a gift. If we could see the good and the bad. I think I would worry about the bad and overlook the good.

I do agree. If we knew the future, what would be the point of dreaming, planning, preparing, anticipating? Where would be the joy in little things? Would it make it easier to deal with tragedies and heartbreak? Doubtful, because we would live our lives waiting for terrible things to happen and not fully enjoy the present. Why would we have free will if everything is predetermined? Life is supposed to be a journey upon which we embark with the freedom to choose our other path. Some of us are better at navigating the way than others.
