Place yourself in Oceania. What role do you think you might play? How might you react against, comply with, and cope with the strictures of that society?

I would find it so difficult to live in a society like Oceania, I am so thankful that I live in a time and a country where women are approaching equality with men (and to be sure we still have a long way to go) and are not denied freedoms such as education and equal opportunities in the workplace (mostly) and the right to choose who we love, etc. I would want to survive the culture and horrors of Big Brother, especially the constant surveillance and strict routines, so I would try to be as low key and invisible as possible. I would only do the bare minimum that would allow me to avoid punishment and stay on the outskirts and take any safe opportunity to negatively impact the Party. If I were able to escape and survive outside of their reach, I would happily do so.

If I was stuck in Oceana I think it likely I would have tried to stick as close to the party line as possible. I suspect that most of those who'd grown up in that environment probably just accepted their society's way of life as normal. I never would have engaged in the kind of micro-rebellions Julia did - I would have been too afraid of getting in trouble.

I would absolutely hate the lack of privacy, the lack of intellectual and artistic stimulation, being told what I could read, what job, who to pretend to hate…every bit of it. I’d like to think I would find ways to connect with like-minded others and to resist in a subtle way—I was braver and more energetic in my youth, though not as much as Julia.

You only know what you know and may not be aware of what is out there.
My goal with living in Oceana would be to survive as best I could.
So I would try to be as observant as possible to all that goes on around me - pay particular attention to the outdoors.
But, if I was taken from my current living situation, and placed in Oceana I would truly have a hard time adjusting and not sure how I would survive.
