Do you think Rosaline and Juliet will be happy, living out their lives in the convent? Why or why not?

It seems that life in the convent was not as strict as Rosaline originally thought. She could have her music, she could continue to write and study. Juliet was so young and unformed, I cannot say if she will or will not be happy.

I do. I think they will find comfort being around strong women.

Probably Juliet more than Rosaline will be able to find more happiness there. From the start Rosaline seems much more adventurous. But as Solomons described her in the beginning, she’s a person who loves literature and music and perhaps she’ll settle for that. But she very much wanted to be free to be herself. Even if this convent is full of strong rule-breaking women, will it be enough for her.

I think perhaps eventually, but I think it would take a long time. I can imagine them both getting restless before they accept their lot and are content. I need to research convents, I think; I'm not at all sure how they managed to keep women from leaving, or if they had any way to leave if they couldn't adapt to the life.

I feel the abbess gave a hint of a bit more freedom available to the nuns. Time is an interesting perspective. In looking back, they may come to the realization that the convent isn’t a terrible life and wherever they are, they are together so that may help.

I think Rosaline will be happy and will become the abbess one day. I believe Juliet might leave and find happiness with another man.

I think it will take a long time for them both to adjust. Perhaps an easier time for Juliet than Rosaline. Whether Rosaline will truly ever be happy is hard to say.

Convent life was much easier than some other choices, especially if one brought money to pay for comforts. Compare that with the life of a married woman who was governed (sometimes) by her husband’s whims. Among the upper classes, marriages were for economic, political or status gain, not usually love.

I think Rosaline and the mother superior made a great team. Perhaps Rosaline eventually assumed the office and got to run things, which I think would have suited her just fine.

I think the convent life wasn't as bad as Rosaline initially thought it would be - but it still wasn't her choice and wasn't how she desired to live her life. Rosaline wanted to marry and have a family, not live in a convent

No for both of them, when you are not given a choice or say in your own freedom how can you ever be satisfied or really know if you’re truly happy ir satisfied! It’s why we deem freedom so precious!! Maybe I miss read but my understanding was Rosaline was the only one forced to commit when she made the deal with the Sister to help her rescue Juliet. I thought Rosaline stated that Juliet could leave when she was ready to start what ever life she chose.

I'm not sure Juliet will end up staying at the convent. That might not be the life for her and it never says she will become a nun. Rosaline might eventually adapt. She can have the things she loves like music and maybe the sins of the flesh based on what the abbess hints.
