In Gertrude Stein's salon, Tanya and Maud are confronted with the art of Picasso. How do you think you would have reacted in their place?

Like everyone else I am not a Picasso fan but having seen a lot more modern art styles than any of them would have in their time I would not have been as surprised or shocked by it as they would be in their times.
If I was standing next to them in the early 1900's I would have reacted as they did

I'm sure the Picasso's were something new to the women, but I think Maud would have been open to them since she also saw different things in what she painted. The description of her own paintings referred to her unusual perception and center of importance in the paintings. Since both girls were painters I think they would have not dismissed them.

I agree with most of you in that Picasso is not a favorite of mine. I do not understand his paintings. The girls would probably look at these paintings a little different, since they were studying painting.
