There was long fizzy pause in which we avoided eye contact; then he reached out and downed the whole thing in one go. I could hear the cartoonish glug as he swallowed. When at last he looked up, his eyes were glassy, wide.

Delicious, he whispered. His usual zip-lipped machismo was gone; he looked like a little boy on his birthday. Thank you so much.
