Journalist and author Carl Thomas Rowan (19252000) was born in Ravenscroft,
Tennessee, USA. One of the most prominent contemporary black journalists, he was
a prizewinning reporter for the Minneapolis Tribune (195061), and later (from
1965) became a nationally syndicated columnist, as well as a radio commentator
and a panelist on the weekly television show Inside Washington (196796).
He also served as ambassador to Finland (19634) and as director of the US
Information Agency (19645).
