Fortune's Rocks: A Novel
by Anita Shreve
Book for the Senses (11/16/2005)
At first, I was a little apprehensive in reading this book. I was a little grossed out by the concept of a 15 yr old having sex with a 40 yr old guy. As I read it, I began to envy Olympia and Heskell. The kind of love described in the book is almost exclusively found only in the pages of a great love story. As I never actually witnessed the kind of love that defies even morality in real life, I can only imagine the intensity and the passion that Olympia and Heskell felt. The ending was a complete fairytale ending but who cares really?!! This book is so gooooood!
The Pilot's Wife
by Anita Shreve
A newbie reviews (11/16/2005)
I'm not usually a fan of Oprah's Book Club, but I'm starting to be a fan Anita Shreve since I read Fortune's Rocks which I got at a used books store. In Pilot's Wife, the subtle building romance between Richard and Katherine is what I found most appealing rather than the relationship with her husband even in the flashbacks. It is not an integral part of the major plot, but the chemistry between them is obvious from the moment Richard knocked on Katherine's door.
