This off-beat story of 2 divorced attorneys kept my interest. The author is able to give his main characters quick dialog and funny conversation. The story of Nick Ward's attempt to deal with his divorce from Lena, and escalating bizarre behavior, will keep the reader …more entertained. This is not a long or powerful book, but a pleasant vacation from our own day-to-day life.(less)
Talk of the Town
by Lisa Wingate
We're Not Talking About This Town(12/1/2007)
I was excited to finally win something; an opportunity for read and review a book. Sadly, my excitement didn't last more than a few pages. While the premise of the book, Hollywood hits the small town was good; the book didn't deliver. I found the reading tedious and often …more painful. The author took too long to get into the meat of the book, and was far too wordy. I'm sorry I didn't enjoy this book at all.(less)
This book was a delightful surprise. The story was unusual, irreverant, sad and amusing, all at the same time. The main character, who accidentally burns down a famous writer's house (while a docent and her husband were in the writer's bed), moves from one absurd situation …more to another. I enjoyed this book, and the author's style.(less)
This excellent book is offered as Young Adult. I found the compelling story to be a bit mature for true YA readers. An amazing story, that kept me up all night reading. I had to finish the book once I started it. This book, along with The Book Thief (interestingly also …more considered a YA book), are the 2 books I have been insisting that all my reading friends invest their time in.(less)
My book club read, and enjoyed, Bel Canto. I thought I would experience the same pleasure with Run. Sadly, I was disappointed. This book was more "run" of the mill, than page turner. I felt that the characters were unrealistic on one level (how many "Kennedy" type families …more would adopt poor children with no idea of where they came from?), and predictable on another (good son, bad son). Characters were not fully developed and I was left wondering what the real story was with the biological son.
I wouldn't spend money on this book. If you really want to read it, I'll give you my copy. It's not a keeper.(less)
