This is a must read...Everyone can find themselves in this page turning book. How life can turn upside down in a blink of an eye. But to find a path through the upset and have sadness once again find a way to truth and the end result is finding oneself. It is written so you can actually feel like you are there experiencing the action. Mother and daughter connect and love finds a way. It is amazing how the end actually connects to the beginning after many trails & tribulation. The mystery and suspension of the story is what makes this a page turner. Male and female readers will connect to this story.

We walk with Alice through childhood as she encounters sibling rivalry, Mr Dodgson a very mysterious predator of young girls, his friend who was jealous of him, a very sad death of someone who was loved so much by Alice. The story starts at the cradle of Alice's life and follows her till she is in her golden years.She never really faces the ghost that haunts her from childhood to her end years. After a very full life with sorrows and joys she finally faces her ghost of the unknown memory she has blocked for 70 years. The story ends too soon for me.

It was entertaining and I was drawn in as the book moved along with many surprises and the setting in England was so picturesque and learning about building hedges and then it became so very warm and personal. The further I read the faster I turned the pages. It was a love story, a human interest and sad story and taught me a lot about good witches, info I had never heard before. It was the best read so far of the year 2009. It was based on a true story so that makes it even more of a page turner. 5 stars doesn't do this one justice.

This isn't Sheri's best book but it does have a message to people in all walks of life, it is easy reading, easy to put down and easy to pick up and start reading. Because of some language and sexual implications I would recommend for 17 years plus older readers. It has a personal message for many people so it can appeal to many readers. A book club would be able to discuss this book in detail about how other people in your life influence your behavior throughout your entire life. This book was not as interesting or moving as The Rapture of Canaan to me.
