A Paris Apartment
by Michelle Gable
Boring and trite (3/14/2014)
Not much more to add to that....I am always interested in reading about Paris and the story sounded promising. However, the writing here is amateurish and actually distracts from the story. It was really difficult to keep reading. Blech!
City of Tranquil Light: A Novel
by Bo Caldwell
City of Tranquil Light (8/23/2010)
This is just the loveliest book I've read in a long time---Bo Caldwell has expertly written a very beautiful story of a young couple and their missionary work in China at the turn of the century that had me in the palm of her hand the whole time I was reading. Even a week later, I still can't get the characters out of my mind.
An excellent read... I highly recommend it.
Pearl of China: A Novel
by Anchee Min
Not her best, but very good. (2/25/2010)
I would heartily recommend this book for any book club especially in combination with reading "The Good Earth" and "Red Azalea" (both of which I loved)...I think to have read all three would make for an incredible and animated discussion that would long be remembered.
South of Broad
by Pat Conroy
Loved it! (9/23/2009)
I completely devoured this book and was easily lost in the low country and lives of the characters. Pat Conroy writes so well, there were sections where I just lingered over sentences...they are so beautifully written especially when he is describing the city of Charleston.

I recommend the book heartily...it would be great for book clubs. And I am now very anxious to read come of Conroy's earlier work.
