The Secret Keeper
by Paul Harris
Fast Paced Thriller (3/3/2009)
The book had my attention from the first page and held my attention until the end. I must confess I read it over the span of 2 evenings.I wanted to know the ending. At times, some of the characters seemed a bit flat and predictable, but overall a great first novel.
Something Like Beautiful: One Single Mother's Story
by Asha Bandele
A Mother's Memoir (12/2/2008)
This memoir grabbed my attention from the very first page. I read the book in one sitting. The reader experiences the author's memories of her husband, her daughter and herself through a very strong and focused emotional lens. I think what pulled me to finish the book in one sitting is I wanted to know the "why" of her choices: loving a man in prison and having a child together. I am not sure if I really have "the answer," but I think Asha does a good job with holding the reader's attention. Plus, I now have her first memoir, The Prisoner's Wife on my reading list.
Time of My Life: A Novel
by Allison Winn Scotch
Momlit (8/1/2008)
This novel fell short of providing me with the desire to know what happens to the main character. There are some funny parts and insightful and honest glimpses into motherhood, but overall the novel dragged. I am a reader of Momlit and I would not recommend this book.
