Denialism: How Irrational Thinking Hinders Scientific Progress, Harms the Planet, and Threatens Our Lives
by Michael Specter
Corporate control of technology (1/14/2010)
I think the author misses a very important point about technology; that being the corporate control of that technology and the push to make a profit from it. While I agree that people shouldn’t irrationally fear technological advances, I think we have every right and plenty of evidence to fear the corporations that own or develop the technology. I think that nearly all technology does not exists in society outside of it’s context as a tool to enrich the owners and stockholders of corporations. This is scary and dangerous stuff, especially considering the corporate “free speech” issue that is coming up before the Supreme Court. I refer any who are interested to the prophetic book by David Kortens, “When Corporations Rule The World.”
