I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were unique and interesting. The storyline held my attention. I also liked the way the author mixed in the facts about lightning.

The only criticism I have is that every once in a while I got confused about some of the lesser known characters. Other than that it was a very enjoyable read!

Although parts of this book moved a little slowly I enjoyed reading this book. The subject matter was very interesting and the characters were unique. It had a mystical quality to it and I felt like I was being drawn into a unique place and time in history. The last quarter of the book really picked up the pace. I think a book club could have some good discussions about the days of people being accused of witchcraft.

The Things That Keep Us Here: A Novel

A book about the H1 flu bug was timely but it did not hold my interest. It moved very slowly,(unlike the flu virus) and in the whole first half of the book nothing much happens. The characters were underdeveloped and uninteresting although I liked her creative naming of some of the characters. I am sad to say the book put me to sleep.

I loved this book! It was entertaining and educational. I really enjoyed her explanations of the Roman words and customs. The characters were very interesting. I did not want to put it down!

I Really did not enjoy this book at all. The main character made one bad choice after another and tried to blame it on the fact that she is a black oppressed woman. I felt sorry for her daughter. In case she hasn't heard the news we have a black President. This book really irritated me!

The Music Teacher

I really enjoyed the musical and spiritual aspects in this book. I am a Christian & a musician and several things she said touched me on both levels. It was a good read and one that I hesitated to put down. I was a little disappointed in the ending. It seemed to all of a sudden veer off into a strange direction. I really enjoyed her use of words and descriptive phrases.
