Do You Like Stieg Larsson? You'll Like This! (12/7/2010)
Like a fast moving roller coaster through a cold dark night, this thriller speeds along from the very first page to the explosive end. A drug deal resulting in an execution brings in Detective Inspector Ewert Grens, a complex man with his own set of private problems. At the center of the drug deal gone bad is Piet Hoffman who has infiltrated a high level drug organization. When Hoffman is sent to prison, he soon discovers he's wanted dead by both the drug gang and the police. Lots of twists and turns in this story, and characters are not always what they seem. A compelling read that once started, readers will be hard pressed to put down, because who knows what will happen next. Recommended for those who enjoy thrillers and Swedish Noir.
Bad Boy: An Inspector Banks Novel
by Peter Robinson
Bad Boy by Peter Robinson Is Another Winner! (7/14/2010)
The latest Peter Robinson book featuring DCI Alan Banks is a diversion from the usual Banks investigation into a murder mystery. This novel is primarily a highly entertaining chase and pursuit when Banks enters the hunt for the Bad Boy. All the familiar characters from the Eastvale Precinct are here: DI Annie Cabot, DC Winsome Jackman, Det. Superintendent Gervaise and others that readers will remember.

Characterizations are brilliant, the dialogue is superb, and sense of place is established early on. A central theme asks what happens when all communication breaks down between a mother, a father, and a daughter? Readers are left to ponder the question that so many parents ask themselves every day and wonder what might have been "if only". The chase for Bad Boy starts off slow, builds speed, adds the element of danger to a Banks' family member, and races to a deadly finish that will keep readers up late at night to finish this book. Highly recommended!
Alice I Have Been
by Melanie Benjamin
Sure To Be A Bestseller (10/27/2009)
A multi-layered look at the life of the subject of Alice in Wonderland and that of its creator, Lewis Carroll. This is a book that will have readers thinking about Alice and Lewis Carroll long after they've closed the covers. Both were fascinating, if flawed, characters.
An Incomplete Revenge: A Maisie Dobbs Novel
by Jacqueline Winspear
An Incomplete Revenge by Jacqueline Winspear (3/3/2008)
In September, 1931, thirty-three years old Maisie Dobbs accepts an assignment to investigate a potential estate purchase. Over the years there have been a series of mysterious fires which the villagers refuse to discuss. Overshadowing all is the Zeppelin raid during World War I that killed a local family. Maisie solves one of her most challenging cases by traveling through the lazy countryside of Kent in post World War I and interviewing villagers, a band of local gypsies, and some of the Londoners who go down to Kent every summer to pick hops. Good period details.
