With or Without You: A Memoir

I found Domenica Ruta to be an inspiring person, who was able to overcome a horrific childhood. The book was difficult to read because the events of her life were not told in chronological order or seemingly in any logical order. The author is definitely a talented writer, but this definitely impeded my ability to really engage in the storyline.

A compelling read! You won't be able to put this one down. Joanna Brady produced a novel of historical fiction at its best. Not nearly enough has been written about Florida's early history. Joanna Brady's novel is in the same league as Patrick Smith's The Land Remembered. I can't say enough about her talent as a writer and story teller. A must read!

Ephron gives us a refreshing look at life. Amy Ephron gives us a glimpse into high society life in a way that is amusing and realistic. She brings to light that family and relationship issues reach cross all classes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her account of the more innocent times of growing up in the 60's and coming of age in the 70's. It was a quick and enjoyable read, with some fabulous lines and language.

A very compelling read. I couldn't put it down. The characters are well developed, and the storyline is realistic. The topic of family was presented in a contemporary fashion. I especially loved that the ending provided conflict resolution without being too syrupy. I am anxious to read another book written by Kristina Riggle.

I loved this book! It is beautifully written and I couldn't put it down until the end. Cook developed such believable characters, with realistic qualities. It was heartwarming at times, and heartbreaking at other times. A wonderful story was woven. I look forward to reading more from this author. I will definitely encourage my book club to read this book.

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother

I enjoyed this book very much. It was interesting reading the perspective of parenting from an Asian mother. So many aspects of parenting is based on cultural norms. It was enlightening to learn how discipline is instilled in children in the Asian culture. Amy Chua was able to insert wisdom, and humor into her writing that made the book entertaining as well as insightful.

Man in the Woods

Scott Spencer's use of rich descriptive language is delightful, although at times I felt the detail a bit tedious. Overall, the book was captivating, and the further I got into the plot, the harder it was to put the book down.

Stash

I enjoyed reading the book very much. The story had a fast pace, that kept the reader interested. The characters were well developed and engaging. I felt the writing was reminiscent of Andre Dubus III (author of The House of Sand and Fog). I was a little disappointed in the ending, as I was anticipating a twist in the plot. Overall I enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend the book to others.

The Language of Secrets

I enjoyed this book. It grabs your attention from page one. The alternating pattern of flashback in the organization of the book added to the intrigue. Hope to see more books from this author.
