The Poet's House

Interesting read (7/8/2022)
I'm not entirely sure how to review this book. I mostly enjoyed the plot but also sort of felt like I wasn't sure why I was reading the story. The characters were ok and maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea since I'm not really into poetry.
Heartbreak: A Personal and Scientific Journey

This book isn't necessarily one that I would have picked out at this stage in my life but I'm very glad that I got the opportunity to read it as an advance copy. I really enjoyed how the author wove her personal journey with the science of heartbreak. I have never personally been through a divorce but I could relate in other ways with what she was saying and I will be using some of her strategies to help with other parts of my life. It's a great book for anyone that is looking to understand how love and loss impacts so much of how our bodies work. Everything is connected and I'm so thankful that we have scientists to help us unravel the wonders of being alive.

Excellet Fictionalization of a Historical Story (9/14/2021)
I really enjoyed this book, the characters were all really well developed and the story was very engaging. I liked the historic aspect of the novel; I had no idea that these events took place in the past. I think this would be a great book for a college course, it's so important to not forget about events like this.
Blind Man's Bluff: A Memoir

I think this book was really well written and loved the authors wonderful sense of humor and ability to draw you into his life. After reading you really have a great appreciation for the sense of sight and how hard it can be without it. I feel like the author really makes the story accessible for any reader.
Where You Can Find Me: A Novel

I was really looking forward to getting this book because the story sounded so interesting. Unfortunately I had a hard time getting through it. The book didn't have any intrigue until the last hundred pages, and even then it was short lived. I really wanted it to get better, but I was just left with a deficient feeling.
And When She Was Good: A Novel

The book was really easy to read and I really enjoyed the story line. I liked how the story went between the current time and Heloise/Helen's past from chapter to chapter, it helped to explain what was going on and to develop the characters nicely. I also really enjoyed that the author didn't immediately start in with the murder mystery part of the book; most books of this genre have already started the suspenseful parts by the first or second chapter and by the end of the book you feel like the climax was over a few chapters back.
The Secrets of Mary Bowser

Glad I Kept Reading (5/25/2012)
I found the first portion of the book a little slow but I'm glad I stuck it out because this was a great book. The story is wonderfully told and all the characters are so full of life you can't help but feel like you are right there with them. I love that Mary Bowser is such a strong woman character; especially for the time period. I could see this book becoming a movie because the plot is so fascinating.
