I enjoyed this book. When reading about the problems of a woman in the 1800's, I realize we have come a long way toward women's rights. I had never heard of Lucy Ann Lobdell before. Her problems of not making enough money as a woman to support her family, so she had to dress as a man, then being punished for it, was a crime. She was truly a strong woman to go though what she did and it is because of women like her, that we have gotten as far as we have in recognizing women have rights. I recommend reading this book and feel it would make a good Book Club read.
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis: The Untold Story
by Barbara Leaming
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, The Untold Story(11/10/2014)
The book is very good and well worth reading. I am old enough to remember the Kennedy years and the term "Camlot" for the White House. While this is very interesting, it is also about a woman who had a sad life. She wanted a safe marriage and life with Jack was certainly not that and recovering from his death was a life long project.
Girl on the Golden Coin: A Novel of Frances Stuart
by Marci Jefferson
Girl on the Golden Coin(1/8/2014)
I called this book average because of all the time wasted in bedroom scenes. The author could have gotten to the important part of the story much sooner. I did not know the story of Frances Stuart and found this part of the book very interesting. So much is written about Henry VIII that the other Kings are overlooked.
I enjoyed this book. It is somewhat of a fantasy and there is nothing wrong with that. It is fun to get away to another era. Katie did not have a happy home life, being the thirteenth child of a poor Irish family. She felt being taken by the two Indians could be no worse. I liked reading about their travels across western America and the people they met along the way. I would recommend this book.
I liked this book. I thought the premise of two girls winning the house was interesting and different. My favorite character is Aunt Midge. The story seemed to drag in some places, however, then a surprise would appear. I enjoyed the differences between and two girls and how they became. All in all, it was and enjoyable read and I would read more by this author.
