I usually read a book in two days. This one took forever because I kept putting it down. It dragged so badly. Many books I have read have alternating narrators, and I usually enjoy this. Emma and Nina when alternating were giving too much of the same information. Nina was a sociopath intent on repaying Emma for a wrong she committed as a teenager. It was so minor as to be missed by anyone. The nasty and sometimes criminal acts Nina performed on Emma's family were entertaining. The ending of the book was shocking. I can't really recommend this book because there is so many good books out there to be read, why suffer through 100 pages till you start enjoying the book?

Eddie Rickenbacker, I knew was an Ace pilot in WWI but that was it. I so enjoyed finding out what an exciting life he led and how varied it was. He is an awe inspiring man and the title of the book including the dawn of the age of speed was so appropriate to his life. He was right there at the forefront mastering the two developing technologies. The clear writing and face pace of this book was a joy to read. I highly recommend it. I think any history buff would love this book, along with book clubs that enjoy memoirs and biographies.

Benfu and Calli were a loving couple. Benfu's job was a scavenger, going threw dumps looking for things he could resell. He found girl babies and brought them home and raised them, All the babies were given flower names. They were very poor but he always found a way to put food on the table and heat the house. He had a horrible experience when he was younger as a Mao recruit. I think this book would be excellent for a book group because there is so much to cover. I read this book in a day but you could analyze this book for awhile. I am very happy that there is an another book available already to preorder in this series. I am definitely going to get book two in the series, this is based on a true man.
This would be a good book for the YA market.

I usually read a book in two days. This book took over a week. I kept putting it down because it just was so slow and boring. The synopsis of the book sounded so exciting but it didn't pan out. It seemed jumbled and unclear, never giving a direct answer to what really happened to the family. And more importantly Caleb. It was hard to believe that Caleb wanted to go back to his captor. But that is what happens to brain washed people. So I do think the author touched on many important points but didn't flesh them out. The ending caught me by surprise.

I usually see dystopian in a book description and immediately count the book out. This one mentioned THE SCARLET LETTER, so I was hooked. The price on Kindle didn't hurt either.
I loved this book, it has so much to discuss: politics, religion, women's rights, fear, shame, alienation and shunning.
The cover show's the protagonist, Hannah, as a red woman. That is how people are shown to be criminals instead of being keep in prisons. The ramifications of that are immense.
This is a very fast read but gives a powerful punch. You will be thinking about this novel long after reading it. I have suggested to many people to read it, it was that good.

What a nice way to start the new year. I couldn't put this book down. I liked the way the author wrote every chapter with a different voice. Every chapter was the first person of a different character.

Max is sixteen years old and until this time has never had a problem with being intersex. His parents didn't discuss his intersex with him and the ramifications of the changes of becoming older. His intersex has always been a secret. He needed someone to discuss his feelings with, and his parents weren't available.
There was foreshadowing in this book which let you know what was coming. I'm afraid to go into a lot pf the details of the plot because I don't want to reveal too much. This is a great YA book and has good info for book clubs.
