The Witch of Painted Sorrows: A Daughters of La Lune Novel
by M. J. Rose
The Witch of Painted Sorrows (3/27/2015)
I picked The Witch of Painted Sorrows because it sounded exciting and different from what I usually read. I did find it interesting enough to keep me turning the pages, but not as exciting as I had hoped. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters and while I bought in to the supernatural aspects of the book, I found parts of the story unbelievable, even within that context. I was also disappointed with the ending. It seemed abrupt and unfulfilled. That said, if you like erotic, Gothic novels, you may find this a fun read.
The Drowning Guard: A Novel of the Ottoman Empire
by Linda Lafferty
The Drowning Guard (9/16/2013)
It took me a little while to get into this book. I wasn't sure if I was interested, but then suddenly, I couldn't put it down. I was completely drawn in to the characters and the beautiful descriptions of life in the Palaces of the Ottomans. I was intrigued to read of a time and place that I knew little about and I enjoyed the plot twists and the people. So glad I didn't give up on this wonderful book!
