Fast paced and compelling (1/10/2017)
At first glimpse Keita's life is simple but comfortable. At a young age he knows that running is his passion. The reality of his father's concerns hit home when he runs by a naked body, dead and in the middle of the city fountain. His life turns to turmoil when his beloved sister wins a scholarship that takes her to a far away country. He and his father are left to take care of each other. He soon realizes his father's writing has brought undesired attention to the two of them from the corrupt ruler of the state. Keita's running becomes more than just winning a race.
The Painted Girls
by Cathy Marie Buchanan
eye opening historical novel (2/13/2014)
I was intrigued to find out more about the artist when I picked up this book. I got a lot more than I expected! Beautifully written, this book describes a time I knew existed, but had never read the depth of it before. The author brings to life the extreme struggles of the poor residents in Paris during "La Belle Epoque" The truth is, it was not always beautiful! A real eye opener!
