The Book of Strange New Things: A Novel
by Michel Faber
Not typically my cup of tea but... (9/18/2014)
I continued reading it and was pleasantly surprised. The Book of Strange New Things was written well and I was able to immerse myself in the storyline. The ending not what I expected, left me wanting more of a resolution. In my opinion, the author could have been less descriptive in the book as it was rather long. The highlight of the book was that it made me think what would I do, not all books do that for me.
Her
by Harriet Lane
Her (6/12/2014)
Harriet Lane's novel Her took me awhile to decide if I wanted to keep reading it but I am glad I stuck with it as I like novels with suspense and this book didn't disappoint. I might have written a different ending for this book instead of a cliffhanger, I will be recommending we read this at a future book club.
The Quick
by Lauren Owen
The Quick (4/16/2014)
I enjoy a good Gothic novel and this didn't disappoint, I was actually surprised by the supernatural/paranormal twist in it (something I am not normally drawn to) and the ending was a little disappointing to me - will there be a sequel? At times it was hard to follow and it was a little too long with not enough character development (quite a few -perhaps too many). Nonetheless it is worth the read. Good debut novel by Ms. Owen.
