The Rebellion of Miss Lucy Ann Lobdell
by William Klaber
The Rebellion of Miss Lucy Ann Lobell (12/3/2014)
I enjoyed this book. When reading about the problems of a woman in the 1800's, I realize we have come a long way toward women's rights. I had never heard of Lucy Ann Lobdell before. Her problems of not making enough money as a woman to support her family, so she had to dress as a man, then being punished for it, was a crime. She was truly a strong woman to go though what she did and it is because of women like her, that we have gotten as far as we have in recognizing women have rights. I recommend reading this book and feel it would make a good Book Club read.
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis: The Untold Story
by Barbara Leaming
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, The Untold Story (11/10/2014)
The book is very good and well worth reading. I am old enough to remember the Kennedy years and the term "Camlot" for the White House. While this is very interesting, it is also about a woman who had a sad life. She wanted a safe marriage and life with Jack was certainly not that and recovering from his death was a life long project.
Girl on the Golden Coin: A Novel of Frances Stuart
by Marci Jefferson
Girl on the Golden Coin (1/8/2014)
I called this book average because of all the time wasted in bedroom scenes. The author could have gotten to the important part of the story much sooner. I did not know the story of Frances Stuart and found this part of the book very interesting. So much is written about Henry VIII that the other Kings are overlooked.
The Spirit Keeper
by K. B. Laugheed
The Spirit Keeper (9/25/2013)
I enjoyed this book. It is somewhat of a fantasy and there is nothing wrong with that. It is fun to get away to another era. Katie did not have a happy home life, being the thirteenth child of a poor Irish family. She felt being taken by the two
Indians could be no worse. I liked reading about their travels across western America and the people they met along the way. I would recommend this book.
The Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane
by Kelly Harms
The Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane (5/10/2013)
I liked this book. I thought the premise of two girls winning the house was interesting and different. My favorite character is Aunt Midge. The story seemed to drag in some places, however, then a surprise would appear. I enjoyed the differences between and two girls and how they became. All in all, it was and enjoyable read and I would read more by this author.
