The Secrets of Midwives
by Sally Hepworth
Fun, quick read. (12/25/2014)
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read, and I found that I did not want to put it down. I feel like I really got to know the characters of the book. I would have liked to be a member of their family! I was cheering for them all as I read the book.

This book appealed to me as a person in the medical field It was interesting to learn about the practice of a nurse midwife.

This book would make a good book club selection. A book club could spend hours talking about family secrets and the complexity of relationships within a family, especially motherly love. As an adoptive mother, I could relate to Floss's instant bonding with Neva as her child. As I write this review on my son's 13th birthday, I reflect on the relationship that we have. I can't imagine it could be any stronger if I have given birth to him myself.
The Deepest Secret
by Carla Buckley
The Deepest Secret (1/1/2014)
When I first started this book, I thought it might be as good as Defending Jacob. I was exciting and couldn't wait for the story to unfold. Unfortunately for me, it never really got off the ground. The story lingered and was predictable. There was a great opportunity for the author to create many twists and turns in this book, but it never happened. I did not get the relevance of the relationship with the next door neighbor. That was just creepy to me. I also did not think there was much resolution at the end of the book. I would have enjoyed the book more if the book was condensed into the first 100 pages and then there was a trial in which the complicated relationships unfolded.
Wife 22: A Novel
by Melanie Gideon
Loved It! (4/1/2012)
I felt connected to Alice right away. I also am in my mid-forties and reflecting on my life thus far. I loved the non-traditional format of the book. I loved the characters in the book and Alice's honesty and frankness as she examined her life. I had a suspicion of the ending early on in the book, but it did not keep me from enjoying it!
Bloom: Finding Beauty in the Unexpected - A Memoir
by Kelle Hampton
Bloom (2/12/2012)
Finding beauty in the unexpected is exactly what Kelle Hampton did when her second daughter was born with Down's Syndrome. This memoir shows the love and support of family and friends that Kelle needed as she came to terms with the unexpected. I enjoyed reading of Kelle's passion for life and dealing with it as it shows up. The photography really enhanced the memoir.
The Good Father: A Novel
by Noah Hawley
The Good Father (11/30/2011)
This was a good book that was hard to put down. I enjoyed the historical facts of past assassinations in this country. The story was intense. The end for me was a little bit of a let down, and there were some details of characters were gross that I did not think were necessary. Overall, it was a good book. I am glad I read it.
Defending Jacob: A Novel
by William Landay
Defending Jacob (10/2/2011)
I read this book very quickly. It was hard to put down. The character development was excellent, I felt like I was a member of Jacob's family. I predicted some of the events that happened, but it was suspenseful until the end. I would recommend this book to a friend.
