Between the Tides

Between the Tides (4/12/2015)
This is an easy and quick read. I felt Lainie's disappointment when her husband said they must move to another city for his career advancement. As time went by, she was so unhappy and so trapped in her new situation. She had left the city, the water, everything dear to her She has her children and her painting, but not the familiar life she had enjoyed.

She finds a friend, Jess. She and Jess had been friends in high school years The new town is not friendly, and it seems her children are always misbehaving and her husband, Charles is not very supportive.
The story is most interesting until it takes a few turns in the last few chapters. I did not like the ending. It seemed implausible, contrived.
The Sweetheart Deal

Sweetheart Deal by Polly Dugan (3/6/2015)
This book is a quick read, and a pleasant one. We learn immediately that Leo wants his friend Garrett to sign a paper. The paper is a promise that Garrett will marry Audrey, Leo's wife, if Leo should die.

I thought this was a strange request, but looked forward to learning more about these people. Garrett is a dear friend who feels the responsibility to help his friend's family when Leo is killed in a skiing accident.

As the story goes on, some predictable things happen. The story reflects the lives of some decent, ordinary people and the turn of events which can change lives so much. While there are not a great many twists and turns in the plot, it is interesting and I would recommend it to anyone who likes family stories and happy endings.
