My Lovely Wife
by Samantha Downing
A true page turner! (11/1/2018)
Clever, different, interesting and frightening all wrapped up in one engrossing tale. This book's twists and turns kept me intrigued and disturbed at the same time. It takes the reader to some dark places and makes one stop and wonder how a normal looking (to the outside world) middle-class marriage can be so dysfunctional and messed up. What a tale! I think this would be a good one for Book Clubs and also anyone looking for a well written page turner. I was also fascinated that the book was written by a woman. It was pitch perfect told in the words of the main character, the husband. Samantha Downing, outstanding job!
Miss Jane
by Brad Watson
Miss Jane by Brad Watson (4/28/2016)
What a pleasure this book was! The descriptions of Mississippi during this time period were beautifully written and the characters truly came to life as the story unfolded. I was caught up in this tale immediately and felt sympathy, heartbreak, interest and by the middle of the book total admiration for the main character, Jane. The story is one of a kind and I would definitely recommend this book to my book club, as I am sure the story would lead to discussion in many different directions. Well done, Brad Watson!
Shelter
by Jung Yun
Shelter by Jung Yun (12/6/2015)
If you are looking for a very real story that takes you on a roller coaster ride, this is the book for you. This book kept me interested and engaged the entire time I was reading it. The author, Jung Yun, has written a powerful story with many twists and unexpected turns. All of the characters grab you and become very real very quickly. The main character, Kyung is such an emotional mess and you learn why as the story unfolds. Great story telling and very heartbreaking at times. Once you begin this book, you will not want to put it down.
When the Moon Is Low: A Novel
by Nadia Hashimi
When the Moon is Low by Nadia Hashimi (8/25/2015)
I loved this book! Not only were the characters so well written that I felt like I knew them, the story was totally mesmerizing. The lengths that the characters go to in this story of their dangerous journeys to reach a place where they can be away from wars and poverty and the Taliban is amazing. While reading this book, I was thankful that I have never had such a life. This book also shows us a side of what the Afghan people have had to deal with that is not always portrayed. It certainly made me look at immigration in a different way. I recommend this book to everyone.
