The Midnight Watch: A Novel of the Titanic and the Californian
by David Dyer
The Midnight Watch (2/9/2016)
What an excellent book. I had not read anything about another ship in the area where the Titanic sank, other then the Carpathia. I can not imagine what was going through the mind of Captain Lord as the information was given to him about the rockets that were fired. The book was such a easy read for me. In reading the last part titled Eight White Rockets you could feel sorrow for both the Sage family and for Herbert Stone. I will tell my reader friends about this book as it is one of the better books I have read.
A Fireproof Home for the Bride

A Fireproof Home For The Bride. (3/30/2015)
After reading a review about this book in my local newspaper and being an alumni of the high school in the book, graduating in the 1950's, I could hardly wait to read this book. I liked the map that the author has at the beginning of the box and she was correct on some of the land marks. The one I found not accurate is when she said a boy played basketball for Shanley High School, an all boys Catholic school . The school was co-ed in the 1950's but since this is fiction maybe the author stated it as an all boys school to help with the story. After reading about half of this book, I put it down and decided I would not finish it because I could not find much of a story in it. After a week I did pick it up again and did finish reading it. It did not get any better , I just could not find any thing I liked about this book. Yes, the KKK was in the state in the 1920's but I could not find that they were there in the 1950's . But I had to remind myself that this book is fiction.
Lusitania: Triumph, Tragedy, and the End of the Edwardian Age
by Greg King, Penny Wilson
Lusitana (12/26/2014)
I had not heard much about the Lusitania, other then it had been hit by a torpedo and sunk by the Germans, during World War One. In reading this book I was able to gain a much clearer understanding about the people that sailed on the Lusitania even after there was information printed in the newspaper from the Germans. The book was well written and the Cast of Characters were easy to follow, since there was a list in the front of the book. I do read some books twice, so this will be one that I will read again.
