This book is well written and has a good plot. Being however an old Famagustian and having been through the 1974 war and the displacement of Greek and Turkish Cypriots that followed, I would like to mention that Ms. Hislop presents the Greek Cypriots as "the bad guys" and the Turkish Cypriots as the "victims". If that were so, why is the so called Republic of Northern Cyprus not recognised by the International Community? Why are there numerous UN decisions in favour of the Greek Cypriots and against Turkey who, after all, invaded the country and still ILLEGALLY holds 37 of the total island? And, on a very heartfelt and personal note, WHO HOLDS ME BACK FROM GOING TO MY ANCESTRAL HOME? So, maybe the lovely Ms. Hislop (and I will always be a fan...) should double check her sources next time she ventures into a political theatre still bearing raw, bleeding wounds upon people who were involved. Thank you.
