The Language of Secrets
by Ausma Zehanat Khan
Suspenseful and topical (11/4/2015)
I enjoyed this book, but think that it would have been much harder to understand if I had not read the author's earlier book, The Unquiet Dead, which also features Esa Khattak and Rachel Getty. In this book, they are trying to solve the murder of another police officer who had infiltrated a terrorist group. The suspense builds as Rachel becomes involved with the group and the date of their intended attack approaches.
The Good Neighbor
by Amy Sue Nathan
Going Home (8/7/2015)
Izzy Lane is a newly divorced mother of a five year old son. She has returned to the house where she grew up and is doing her best to give her son a childhood like hers, including a relationship with Mrs. Feldman who still lives next door. I enjoyed this book very much. It is very contemporary, with an emphasis on the way that people communicate via the Internet. I think book clubs would enjoy reading and discussing the book.
Her Name Is Rose
by Christine Breen
Great read! (2/9/2015)
I enjoyed this book very much; as the mother of an adopted daughter, I could identify with many of Iris's feelings. Her efforts to find Rose's birth mother were admirable, and took her far out of her comfort zone. All of the characters were well drawn, and it was interesting to see how their lives came to intersect. I think book clubs would enjoy the book, and find many things to discuss in it.
